Anisotropic universal conductance fluctuations in disordered quantum wires with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction and applied in-plane magnetic field

چکیده
We investigate the transport properties of narrow quantum wires realized in disordered two-dimensional electron gases in the presence of k-linear Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction (SOI), and an applied in-plane magnetic field. Building on previous work [Scheid, et al., PRL 101, 266401 (2008)], we find that in addition to the conductance, the universal conductance fluctuations also feature anisotropy with respect to the magnetic field direction. This anisotropy can be explained solely from the symmetries exhibited by the Hamiltonian as well as the relative strengths of the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin orbit interaction and thus can be utilized to detect this ratio from purely electrical measurements. All-electrical detection of the relative strength of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction in quantum wires.
We propose a method to determine the relative strength of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction from transport measurements without the need of fitting parameters. To this end, we make use of the conductance anisotropy in narrow quantum wires with respect to the directions of an in-plane magnetic field, the quantum wire, and the crystal orientation. We support our proposal by numerical ...
متن کاملWeak localization and conductance fluctuations in a quantum dot with parallel magnetic field and spin-orbit scattering
In the presence of both spin-orbit scattering and a magnetic field the conductance of a chaotic GaAs quantum dot displays quite a rich behavior. Using a Hamiltonian derived by Aleiner and Fal’ko [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 256801 (2001)] we calculate the weak localization correction and the covariance of the conductance, as a function of parallel and perpendicular magnetic field and spin-orbit coupli...

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...
متن کاملSpin dynamics in high-mobility two-dimensional electron systems
Understanding the spin dynamics in semiconductor heterostructures is highly important for future semiconductor spintronic devices. In high-mobility two-dimensional electron systems (2DES), the spin lifetime strongly depends on the initial degree of spin polarization due to the electron-electron interaction. The Hartree-Fock (HF) term of the Coulomb interaction acts like an effective out-ofplane...
متن کاملUniversal spin-Hall conductance fluctuations in two dimensions.
We report a theoretical investigation on spin-Hall conductance fluctuation of disordered four-terminal devices in the presence of Rashba or/and Dresselhaus spin-orbital interactions in two dimensions. As a function of disorder, the spin-Hall conductance GsH shows ballistic, diffusive, and insulating transport regimes. For given spin-orbit interactions, a universal spin-Hall conductance fluctuat...
